What abortion does to women's health?

Abortion is a medical procedure so pain and complications may occur. Researchers found out that pain from abortion is more painful than a bone fracture, about the same as cancer pain, but not as painful as an amputation. Statistics show that abortion is more painful for the younger women than to older adults. Patients also say that abortion is more painful than their doctors expected it to be (“Abortion Statistics”).
More important than pain, complications like bleeding, hemorrhage, laceration of the cervix, menstrual disturbance, inflammation of the reproductive organs, bladder or bowel perforation and serious infection may occur. There are also long term complications from abortion. When overzealous curettage damages the lining of the uterus it may lead to permanent infertility. Women who have abortions have more risk of tubal pregnancy and doubled risk of future sterility. Each abortion increases the risk of future miscarriage. Women who had abortions before age 45 increased their risk of getting breast cancer by 50%. Women under 18 who were never pregnant before and who had abortion after the 8th week of pregnancy increased the risk by 800% (“Physical Complications”). These are serious complications. Women who decide to have abortion do not only kill their unborn children, but they risk their own health and life.
